Dingle Skellig Hotel Extension

Project overview

The Dingle Skellig Hotel is a renowned and favourite family hotel and wedding venue in this scenic coastal town. The hotel enjoys an international reputation for its hospitality. After extensive local authority and stakeholder consultation, we secured planning permission for 34 new bedrooms and a major extension and redevelopment of the reception and banqueting facilities. Key to the project was our interior design of the new rooms, as well as a masterplan and extensive renovation of the restaurant and bar areas, incorporating a new Bin Ban Bistro, multi-functional Atrium space that offers wedding pre-drinks reception, breakfast area or additional bar or Bistro space. We worked with the client from concept through to all material and furniture choices, guiding them through a clear and well-developed understanding of their brief and expectations. The construction occurred whilst the hotel was still ‘live’, so our input and project management ensured that the contractor and the hotel operators were able to keep the hotel open, whilst minimising disruption for guests.

Meitheal's work on the Dingle Skellig Hotel was shortlisted for the Building Refurbishment for a Single Building or Development category at the 2019 Building and Architect of the Year Awards, the Interior Architecture & Design Awards at the 2019 Architecture Expo, and for the Tourism and Leisure Project of the Year category at the 2019 Irish Building and Design Awards.
