Project overview
Meitheal leveraged the expertise of our team in conservation and sensitive restoration with the refurbishment of the KBC Bank Headquarters in Cork. This landmark protected building required a delicate approach to the planning application and design solution.
The interior of the building was brought back to its internal structural shell, retaining the existing cast iron columns and oak floor beams and posts that were incorporated into the fit-out design. A strong emphasis was placed on light in this space, with the creation of a light well between floors. Removing a portion of the second floor opened up a two-storey void on the floor below to maximise the natural light achievable in the deep plan of the building.
